My Story

Matt Acosta is a multi-instrumentalist from Duncanville, TX, with a specialization in trombone and a number of genres including jazz, classical, and commercial music. After earning his bachelor’s in music education from Texas State University, Matt began his master’s in jazz studies at the Jacob’s School of Music at Indiana University. He has performed with several prominent groups in a wide range of genres, such as the Eddie Durham All-Star Big Band directed by Doug Lawrence, the Colour of Music Festival Orchestra, along with local freelancing for wedding bands, churches, and corporate events. Being a multi-instrumentalist, Matt is also proficient on guitar and bass guitar, and regularly records and teaches private lessons on those instruments as well. Along with performing and teaching, Matt has experience in the technical aspects of music; most notably as a member of the Live Sound Team with the IU Theater Department. Enjoying a passion for composing/arranging as well, Matt has had the opportunity of being employed by the University of Kentucky and the IU Dance Department. Most recently, he has had his work “Chile con Soul” premiered at the 2023 International Trombone Festival, and is currently in the process of completing his debut studio album, scheduled for release in 2024.
